Trip to Barcelona

In early April 23 TY and 5th year students and 3 teachers went on an overseas school tour to Barcelona for four days. They enjoyed beautiful sunshine, fabulous tourist attractions such as La Sagrada Familia, Las Ramblas and Parc Guell and the excitement of Portaventura theme park. Overall a great time was had by all.

Scifest 2017

Well done to our students and staff from the Science Department on their impressive array of projects displayed last Wednesday at SciFest in the LIT Thurles campus. Second year student Cormac Walsh received a special award for Physical Science in Junior Cert with his project entitled ‘An Investigation into the effect of adding cow manure to concrete’. First year students were also highly commended by the panel of judges with projects such as ‘Turning Milk Into Plastic’ (Daniel Nolan & Gareth McCarthy), ‘The Corrosiveness of Metals (Bill O’Dwyer), and ‘Centripetal Forces’ (Nathan Keneghan & Killian Hayes). Special mention must also go to teachers Ms. Smith & Ms. Carey on receiving an award for the best Chemistry teachers at SciFest!

Pictured in the photographs below are students from 1st & 2nd year in Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed Thurles attending the SciFest in LIT Thurles with their projects.

SOCCER

Our u14 soccer squad travelled to Carrick last Wednesday to play their eagerly awaited East Munster semi final against a formidable Carrick on Suir CBS side. Both sides started tentatively but once Carrick scored they visibly grew in confidence and defended their lead resolutely. Jack Kennedy scored a superb goal near half time to bring Coláiste Mhuire right back in the game but at the final whistle we succumbed to superior opposition on the day. Excellent performances were delivered on the day from Danny Slattery, Luke Galvin, Eoin Craddock, Gavin Ryan and Ronan Carroll.

TABLE TENNIS

Last Thursday witnessed an enthralling 1st year doubles table tennis final between Mike Ryan/Charlie Yates & Eoin Craddock/TJ Ryan. A large crowd assembled to view this final that went right down to the wire with each team having won one set each before commencing the deciding set. Despite being very equally matched however, there could only be one winner and this transpired to be Mike & Charlie on an 11-09 scoreline. Well done!
