TRIP TO CABRAGH WETLANDS;

Students from second year ventured off to The Cabragh Wetlands last week as part of an investigation in to the study of habitats for Science. Weather conditions on the day were ideal and conducive for undertaking such an investigation as students worked in groups collating data and learning first hand about flora & fauna in such a rich environment on the periphery of Thurles. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone involved. Feedback was most positive from our second years as they agreed it was a brilliant way to learn about habitats through experiencing such biodiversity outside the classroom. Accompanying Science teachers Ms. D. Ryan & Ms. A. Conroy wish to thank the accomodating staff of Cabragh Wetlands, in particular ecologists Michael Long and Adam Tozer, who made the trip possible and were most receptive to our students on the day.

CHOCOLATE FACTORY VISIT:

Our students from 1st & 2nd years enjoyed an outing to Walkinstown in Dublin as they paid a visit to The Chocolate Warehouse Factory. This hugely enjoyable sojourn was arranged by The Business Department and  covers a number of topics in the national curriculum. Business was mixed with pleasure however, as our students viewed chocolate demonstrations and subsequently were afforded a “hands on” experience as they became chocolatiers, making their own chocolate, decorating with toppings, and crucially, sampling their masterpieces! Students also received certificates to remind them of their enjoyable experience at The Chocolate Warehouse.

BANK OF IRELAND PRESENTATION:

Congratulations to 1st year student Gary Delaney who last week became the recipient of an Ipad that was presented to him by Bank Of Ireland Thurles. This prize resulted from a draw among 1st, 2nd, & 3rd year students of our school who opened bank accounts as part of an initiative between our school Business Department and Bank Of Ireland.

AWARDS NIGHT MUSIC PREP.:

The Music Department of Coláiste Mhuire have been busy of late rehearsing for the upcoming Awards Night. Practice has been going well as an assembly of musicians convene during selected weekdays at lunch time to perform pieces on tin whistles, concertinas, flutes, guitars, fiddles, and keyboard. A special mention must go to our non-national students who have been introduced to Traditional music & Song and will shortly return home accomplished as musicians having learned dance tunes in the form of polkas, slides, and jigs. Well done.

AWARDS NIGHT:

This Thursday promises to be a special occasion for our students as they attend our annual Awards night with their parents and guardians. Students from 1st year to 6th year who have excelled in the classroom and outside the classroom in many fields will receive recognition for their contribution to school life at Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed. Go néirí leo go léir!
