Tipperary ETB Talent Show 

On Thursday Jan 26th 2017, Scoil Ruain’s Ava Lawrence (3rd Year) and the Senior Band called ‘9 Aside’ travelled to the Dome in Thurles to compete in the Tipperary ETB Talent Show final. Ava danced a beautiful hornpipe and placed second in the Junior final. Well done Ava.

9 Aside performed last on the night and received by a huge applause from our supporters. We were delighted when the 9 Aside were announced the winners of Tipperary ETB Talent Show 2017. The 9 piece band consists of Danny Gleeson (guitar & vocals), Baylea Grace (guitar & vocals), Aaron Smullen ( bodhran), Tara Gayson (button accordion), Cameron Bailey (saxophone), Caoimhe McMenamin (vocals), Jack Grace (banjo), Ciara Horan(mandolin & Irish dancer), Amy Maher (percussion & Irish dancer). Well done to all involved.

Basketball 

On Tuesday, the 1st of February our 1st year basketball team ‘The Eagles’ had a decisive win over St. Anne’s of Tipperary. The ‘Eagles’ dominated from the start and a tremendous performance was put in by all 12 players. The top scorers were Siobhán O’Hanlon and Ava Heffernan who both scored 12 points each. The game finished on a scoreline of 52-4.

Our 2nd year team ‘Murphys’ also had a convincing win over St. Anne’s of Tipperary on a scoreline of 44-13.  The first quarter was extremely tight with nerves getting to a lot of the players. Only two baskets separated the side. But the girls started to pull away when they worked together from the second quarter onwards. Great team work led to some fantastic scores. Our leading scorers were Ciara Lyons who scored 14 points and Emma Shelly with 10 points.

On Tuesday, the 31st of January our 2nd year team ‘Titans’ were narrowly beaten by two baskets. Great performances put in by Molly Curran (Captain), Michaela Morrissey and Sophia Ivors.
