1st Anniversary of the Bataclan Terrorist Attack

To mark the first anniversary of the Bataclan terrorist attack, Father Lorcan’s sixth year Religious education class read an extract from Antoine Leiris’s book ‘You Will Not Have My Hate’. Antione lost his wife Helene in the attack, and was left to care for his baby son Melvil. The R.E. class decided to make symbols of hope with messages of support for Antoine and Melvil. Fr Lorcan managed to make contact through the publishers, and Leiris and Melvil will receive their gift this week. It was a small, but mighty gesture of solidarity with a man who chooses to raise his son with courage, fortitude and dignity. We are very proud of all our 6th years and hope someone will outreach to them many times in their own lives.

Gaeilge 24

Ar an 15ú de Mhí na Samhna bhí Gaeilge 24 ag siúl timpeall na tíre. Cuireann Conradh na Gaeilge an lá seo ar súil i scoileanna in Éirinn. Is í aidhm an lae seo ná daoine óga a spreagadh chun labhairt as Gaeilge amháin ar feadh 24 uair a’ chloig: sa bhaile, ar scoil, le siopaí agus gnólachtaí, timpeall an bhaile, le cairde, sa chlub spóirt nó óige agus eile!

Cuideoidh sé le hintinn na ndaoine óga a oscailt agus eispéireas dearfach a thabhairt dóibh maidir le húsáid na Gaeilge ina saol.

Ghlac daltaí as an gcúigiú bliain agus as an séú bliain i gColáiste Phobal Ros Cré páirt sa lá. Chaith siad t-léine glas, bhí siad ag labhairt i nGaeilge don lá agus ag déanamh iarracht daltaí eile a speagadh chun an Ghaeilge a labhairt.

Bhí imeachtaí difriúla eagraithe acu. Bhí ceol traidisiúnta agus ceol ó TG Lurgan le cloisteáil go luath ar maidin. Ag am sos bhí ‘An Dreoilín’ ar súil. Bhí beagnach gach duine ag damhsa! Bhí bíongó ar súil ag am lóin. Bhí na buaiteoirí an sásta leis na duaiseanna.

D’éirigh go hiontach leis an lá agus bhailigh siad a lán airgid do Chonradh na Gaeilge.

Mar a deir an seanfhocal, beatha teanga í a labhairt.

History Trip

On Tuesday November 15th, all 5th year history students travelled to Dublin with their teachers Mr. Fitzgerald and Mr. O’Mahony. Students visited the National Museum, Collin’s Barracks for a tour of the most recent 1916 Exhibition, Irishmen at war 1500-present and to the Croppy Acre which was recently re-opened to the public. From there they travelled to the National Library of Ireland where they underwent a special workshop on research and referencing skills that will be invaluable in the future. Students ended the day with a spot of shopping in Newbridge. A fantastic time was had by all.
