HURLING BLITZ:

Last Monday our under-14 hurlers from 1st & 2nd year travelled to the Moycarkey/Borris GAA grounds in Littleton to partake in a Tipperary ETB county blitz. Our first match pitted us against Cahir Dún Iascaigh where we enjoyed a comprehensive victory. We then faced Coláiste Phobail from Roscrea where we played well, but ultimately succumbed to narrowly, and in our final group game against Coláiste Chluain Meala dug deep to eke out another victory. Confidence was high as we consequently qualified for the Plate final against a formidable & resilient Scoil Ruain side from Killenaule. In a gritty performance however, Coláiste Mhuire triumphed in a closely contested affair. Outstanding on the day were Éamon Ryan, Pádraig Gleeson, Gary Delaney, Oskar Lipinski, Cillian Donaghy, Shane Ryan, and Joey O’Donoghue. Comhghairdeas arís!

MENTAL HEALTH TALK:

Students from 6th year attended a talk last week arranged by Career Guidance teacher Ms. O’Donnell on mental health. Many topics were touched upon pertaining to issues affecting adolescents such as peer pressure, stress, bullying, drugs, depression, and anxiety. Our Leaving Cert. cohort who attended were most receptive and positive towards this talk and deemed it to be most informative and educational.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING:

Students from Transition Year were involved in the TL21 computational thinking workshops run by Trinity in LIT Tipperary last week as part of the ICTedu conference. Computational thinking is all about learning how to think, both logically and creatively, uniting both computer science and mathematics in the process.

SUMO ROBOT BOXING:

Two groups of students from transition year in Engineering class have been working diligently in recent months making two robots that were entered in to the ‘Robot Games Ireland Tournament’ at The Radisson Blu Hotel in Galway. Their project involved Sumo robot boxing and was part of a nation-wide tournament that included 22 other schools. While no result had filtered through on going to print we wish them all the best!

GIRLS RUGBY:

Our senior girls rugby team have been training hard over recent months under Munster RFU Coach Aidan McNulty and their manager Ms. Molumby It was with huge excitement last week that our squad made the short distance to Thurles Rugby Cub to pit themselves against local opposition in the form of Presentation College and The Ursuline Convent. Two games were played and some superb performances displayed that culminated with tries scored by Simone Boney, Lara Unger, Eleanora Micozzi, Pia Kolb, Maria Prego, and Kacie Dorney. The matches were played in a very sporting manner and the occasion was enhanced with the presence by the Munster Rugby Officials of The Six Nations trophies won recently by our international male & female squads.
