Home Economics Trip

Nearly 40 Home Economics students from the Coláiste experienced their coursework in real life, taking the opportunity to visit the farmers market in Mahon Point, Cork city on Thursday 19th last, where they saw over 60 stalls comprising of farmers and small independent enterprises selling local produce. The students had the chance to speak to small independent traders who made their own products for the market, as some of the students had produced food products for market day in the Coláiste last term, where one group went on to the Final of the County Enterprise Board competition.

The Home Economics students then made the short journey on to the Maryborough Hotel and Spa, where they experienced Afternoon Tea in the scenic five star hotel. They were warmly welcomed by the Hotel and they sampled foods typical of the meal, which related to one of their Leaving Certificate project assignments for 2016.

An enjoyable day was had by all, and the students would like to thank the organising teachers, Ms. Cathriona Maher, and Ms. Mary T. O’Shea, as well as the Coláiste for the wonderful opportunity to understand how the local food industry operates, and to become familiar with Afternoon Tea.
