Tipperary Enterprise Board Student Enterprise Awards at Scoil Ruáin

The school final of Tipperary Enterprise Board Student Enterprise Awards took place on Friday 15th December in the school’s Assembly Area. There was a great range of products on offer from the many businesses who set up their stalls on the day. These ranged from food based businesses producing hot chocolate, muffins, handmade chocolates and chocolate fountain delights to mirrors, christmas decorations, hurley grips, wooden snowmen and kindling. After much deliberation the following winners were announced –

Senior Winners – Sean Prendergast with his business selling kindling and handmade wooden snowmen and Paddy Gaynor selling his slate and timber mirrors.

Junior Winners – Clodagh Horan and Meadhbh O’Loughlin seeeling accessories for storing headphones and Nathan Lawlor and Ben Bourke selling home baked cakes and scones.

The above winners will represent Scoil Ruáin in the Tipperary County Final which will take place in Spring 2018.

Coisceim Visit to Cartoon Saloon Animation Studios, Kilkenny

On Wednesday 13th December students and their SNAs and teachers visited Cartoon Saloon Animation studios in Kilkenny. Here they were given a guided tour of the studio which is world renowned for producing such films as the “Book of Kells” and “The Song of the Sea” feature length animation films. They also produced a new film entitles “Breadwinner” which is on current release in USA and Canada and will debut in Ireland in May 2018. The film has Angelina Jolie as its executive producer and has been nominated for a Golden Globe in the past week. Everyone greatly enjoyed their visit and some would like to see themselves working in this area when they finish school.
