ATHLETICS

Well done to Colin Morris and Gary Delaney in the schools’ East  Munster Track & Field Championships last week by winning silver in the long jump and bronze in the 800 metres competitions respectively. Well done also to Pádraig Gleeson who ran superbly in the 800m, and to Matthew O’Rourke who qualified for the 100m & 200m finals and finished an agonising 4th in both! We wish Colin and Gary all the best in their quest to emulate similar success at the upcoming Munster Finals at Waterford.

GREEN FLAG

Congratulations to the Green Schools Committee of Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed and to Ms. Smith & Ms. Geaney in attaining a second Green Flag for energy for our school. The committee and their mentors have worked tirelessly to reduce energy consumption in Coláiste Mhuire and have succeeded in saving thousands of euros by replacing high energy consumption bulbs with more energy efficient ones and raising awareness among the whole community. Underpinned by their theme “Kill-A-Watt For A Better Future” representatives from the committee Leisha Ryan & Rebecca Elphick (1st year students), traveled to an awards ceremony in  Kilkenny with Co-ordinators Ms. Maggie Smith and Ms. Caoimhe Geaney to collect their well deserved second Green Flag. Maith sibh!

CELEBRITY CHEF

Some divine aromas emanated from the Home Economics department and wafted through the corridors of Coláiste Mhuire last week as celebrity chef Mark Doe visited our Junior Cert students as part of JCSP. To accommodate all Home Economics students, Mark carried out two demonstrations. The experience was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

STARS IN YOUR EYES

Three acts from Coláiste Mhuire took to the stage at The Presentation to compete in ‘Stars in Your Eyes’. Competition was intense on the night as students from Thurles’ schools produced some excellent performances. Congratulations to 1st year students James O’Donoghue and Caylum Gooney, and to TY student Aaron Wort who delivered superb renditions of respective pieces by Garth Brooks, Justin Bieber and the musical ‘Grease’. Well done also to backing vocalists Ellen Clarke, Rose Shanahan, sharolyn Leimhehner, Rebecca Elphick, Eve Carroll and Megan Kelly. A special mention also for Ms. Helen Wallace and Ms. Caoimhe Geaney for their diligence and assistance over the last month in preparing the Coláiste Mhuire acts.
