MAKE A BOOK PROJECT

Well done to our first year students on producing a Maths workbook ‘Maths goes’ that was displayed in Cork last week to huge appraisal. The purpose of this year’s book is to promote numeracy and incorporated a number of curriculum subjects. Students wanted to make the project fun, whilst highlighting numeracy in everyday life. Subsequently, a trip was undertaken to Dublin Zoo where follow-up worksheets were devised on the experience by students working in groups who planned, designed, and produced a spectacular book that both students & staff are extremely proud of.

RUGBY

Our under-14 squad made the journey to Kilfeacle last Thursday to participate in a Rugby blitz. Conditions on the day were perfect as we pitted ourselves against St. Joseph’s Borrisileigh, Abbey C.B.S., and Coláiste Dún Iascaigh. These competitive matches resulted in two victories for Coláiste Mhuire. Best for us on the day were JJ Schoeman, Martin Reilly, Callum Hall, Dylan Molumby, Gary Delaney, and Jack Riordan. Huge strides have been made in Rugby this year under the charges of Ms. Molumby and Mr. O’ Sullivan, and coach Aidan McNulty that has seen huge numbers at training and successes on the field. Well done to all involved.

FORMULA 1 EVENT

A group of 2nd year students travelled to City West in Dublin to participate in the penultimate stages of the Formula 1 Schools’ event. Under the guidance of Mr. Fanning & Ms. Bergin from Metalwork & Business Departments respectively, students designed a formula 1 racing car. This was displayed and entered into competition against other schools. Sponsorship was provided to 2nd year students by Copymoore & Allpro for this very successful project.

GARDA VISIT

Members of An Garda Síochána paid a visit to Coláiste Mhuire last week and engaged in a questions & answers session with our first year students. They also brought along two sniffer dogs from their unit. This turned out to be a most entertaining and informative talk that was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance.
