CAREERS VISITS

Our 5th & 6th year students were treated to visits recently from a number of speakers from 3rd level institutions. Margaret Brearty from DCU schools liaison team delivered an informative talk on what DCU has to offer prospective students. Similarly, Annette Buckley from Athlone IT, and Ann McBride & Laura Dargan from LIT Thurles campus also spoke on the merits of undertaking courses at their respective colleges. Students deemed these information sessions to be most helpful in considering courses and  careers to pursue after Leaving Certificate.

FORENSICS VISIT CSI

A huge thanks to Garda Pat O’Connor from the forensics team in Templemore  who visited our school recently to speak to our 3rd year students and relay to them the work of a Garda on a forensics team. This transpired to be a fascinating talk, thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance, a real life insight into CSI!

ATHLETICS

Congratulations to our under-14 cross country team that ran superbly in the recent East Munster Championships, and now qualify for the upcoming Munster Championship finals that take place in Cork on the 11th of February. Maith sibh!

JUNK KOUTURE

Our Art Department under Ms. Dorney have been busy and creative of late as they gathered copious amounts of materials intended for dumping, and recycled them into dresses to be entered into upcoming regional Junk Kouture competitions. Among such discarded materials retrieved were eg. scraps of wool, shredded paper, chicken wire, willow sticks, rushes, straw, feathers etc.. to produce excellent garments.

ENGLISH DRAMAS

Our Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate English classes travelled to Arts centres in Kilkenny & Thurles recently to view superb productions of King Lear and Romeo and Juliet. With mock exams currently taking place, we wish our students the very best at this time.

GAELIC FOOTBALL

Conditions were ideal for playing football last Wednesday as we played a highly competitive u-16.5 match against St.Ailbe’s from Tipp Town at Coláiste Mhuire’s grounds. While very little seperated both teams for much of the match it was Ailbe’s who capitalised on their opportunities to a larger extent and ultimately claimed the points. Best on the day for Coláiste Mhuire were David Manning, Aaron Maher, Shane Ryan, Arnold Arlauskis, and man of the match Aaron Delaney.
