“I’m delighted that there is such a variety of courses available in Carrick-on-Suir as it’s easier for me to attend in my own town. The courses have increased my independent living skills and have boosted my confidence in my ability to do things for myself.
“One of the most valuable aspects of these courses is the social aspect. I’ve had a lot of fun meeting new people at classes, and this has also greatly improved my self-esteem. The courses I attend give me something to look forward to each week and I am hoping to do a lot more of them.”
People of all ages are being encouraged to visit the centre during the Open Morning to find a course that fits into their schedule, with courses typically running during the school year and classes running on a full day, morning, afternoon and/or evening basis.
Carrick-on-Suir FET Centre Manager, Fiona Hennessy, is encouraging people to come and see the education opportunities that are available locally:
“Our FET Centre is a hub of education for all, where everyone feels a sense of belonging and acceptance. We focus on the learner as an individual and encourage everyone to learn at their own pace, providing the opportunity to learn new skills, acquire knowledge, and for students to develop themselves personally and professionally.
“We are proud of the links that we have established with Higher Education institutes, and we work closely with local employers and the community to ensure that the focus of our FET provision meets local needs.”
