Tipperary ETB Schools’ Talent Search Finals 2016

The Sports & Cultural Council of Tipperary Education and Training Board presented the second year of their Tipperary ETB Schools’ Talent Search Finals on Thursday 28th January 2016 in Borrisokane Community College. There were twelve acts performing on the night, six acts in both the Junior and Senior categories. These finalists were selected from the semi-finals stages of the competition which saw acts from the twelve Tipperary ETB Schools compete for a place in the finals.

The MC for the evening was Ms. Suzanne McMahon, Deputy Principal of Borrisokane CC. She opened the event by thanking everyone in attendance including the Chief Executive of Tipperary ETB Ms. Fionuala McGeever, the Chairperson of Tipperary ETB Cllr. John Hogan, staff of Tipperary ETB, the performers along with their families and friends. She extended a warm welcome to the three judges; Mr. Seamus Mullaney (Member of the Roscrea Musical Society) Ms. Helen Scott (Music Teacher) and Ms. Erica Costello (Music Teacher). Cllr. John Hogan then thanked everyone for attending. He spoke of the importance of developing the academic abilities of our students but how it is equally important to nurture and share the extra-curricular talents of our students. He wished each of the performers the very best of luck.

The Junior Final got underway with a singing group of 2nd year students collectively known as Seoda from Coláiste Phobal Roscrea. The next Junior finalist was Maria Hayes from Scoil Ruain, Killenaule who played ‘Dolly’s dreaming and awakening’ on the piano. Next to take to the stage was Keelan McGrath on the Button Accordion from Borrisokane Community College. The fourth Junior contestant was Clara O’Brien, a first year student from Coláiste Dún Iascaigh, Cahir who sang “On My Own” from Les Miserables. The winner of last years’ Junior Final Ava Lawrence from Scoil Ruain was next to dance the hornpipe. The final Junior performer for the evening was 1st year student of Borrisokane Community College Dennis Sheehy who performed on the harp.

First to open the Senior Final was Dara Carey Kennedy from Coláiste Phobal Roscrea on the banjo. The second Senior performance was from a singing group consisting of 5th & 6th year students from Coláiste Dún Iascaigh which consisted of Niamh Murphy, Alissa Keating, Nicole Butler, Mary Condon O’Connor, Georgina Conroy, Timothy Vos and Cathal Boyle. Next to the stage in the Senior final was Katie Scully from Coláiste Phobal Roscrea playing the flute. Scoil Ruain had an Irish dancer in the Senior category also namely Amy Maher who danced a reel. The second last performance of the evening was from Borrisokane Community College 6th year student, Jamie Lee Forde. He performed Kodaline song ‘”All I Want” accompanied by his guitar. The final performance of the evening was from Senior Student Band collectively known as TYSA from Scoil Ruain, Killenaule, who performed Tracey Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’.

3rd TYSA Scoil Ruain, Killenaule

 

Fionuala McGeever, Chief Executive and Cllr. John Hogan, Chairperson of Tipperary ETB presented the winning performers with their prizes and congratulated them all. We would like to say well done and thank you to each of the performers for participating in this event. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of their music teachers and their School communities for their continued support in preparing them for the event and for nurturing these talented performers. We wish all of our student the very best of luck in their School lives and in which ever future paths they wish to choose.
