TETB SCC First Year Boys Basketball Blitz

October 10, 2016

St Ailbe’s was the venue for this year’s Tipperary ETB Sports and Cultural Council boys basketball blitz on Tuesday the 4th of October. The event was very well supported, with teams from:

  • St Ailbe’s, Tipperary Town;
  • Borrisokane Community College;
  • Newport College;
  • Scoil Ruain, Killenaule;
  • Colaiste Chluain Meala, Clonmel;
  • Comeragh College, Carrick-on-Suir and
  • Colaiste Mhuire Co-Ed., Thurles with two teams.

All teams involved were guaranteed at least two games, with some groups progressing further as the day advanced. There were many edge of the seat moments, as most of the teams were very evenly matched.

The standard of basketball was excellent throughout the competition. Eventually, the ‘A’ team from Colaiste Mhuire, retained their hard won title from last year. In a tight final against Borrisokane Community College, the Thurles boys once again displayed their mettle outscoring their opponents in a high quality game.

Colaiste Chluain Meala were victorious in the bronze medal match, defeating Scoil Ruain, Killenaule in another hard fought contest.

Colaiste Mhuire ‘B’ overcame Newport College in extra time, in the first runners up final and Comeragh College, Carrick-on-Suir beat St Ailbe’s, Tipperary Town in the second semi-final, following a very strong last quarter. Congratulations to all students and staff who participated in an exciting and enthralling day of sport.

The next basketball blitz will take place on Tuesday 11th October, when Scoil Ruain, Killenaule hosts the first year girls. We look forward to another day of great entertainment.
