The Hairdressing Department of Templemore College of Further Education recently hosted the 2016 Hairdressing Colleges Fellowship Seminar on Monday 5th September. Delegates from hairdressing colleges all over Ireland met in Templemore to discuss trends in the education of the next generation of hairdressers. The Fellowship’s primary purpose is to improve the overall standard of hairdressing education in Ireland by supporting the teachers through the free exchange of information and training, resulting in a standard of hairdressing education second to none in Europe. Speakers on the day were: Mr. Gary Kavanagh HETF Mr. Gerard Hynes IHF and Ms. Sinead Parsow GTI.

Principal of Templemore College Dr. Noel Colleran welcomed the delegates and said ‘Templemore College realises the potential of our Hairdressing Dept. to provide sustainable opportunities in employment and further education for our graduates. As a result the College has made a substantial investment in the development of a Hairdressing Salon which is equal in standard to the most advanced education facilities in the country’. He continued to add ‘We are committed to the provision of the best education for our hairdressing students and that is why we are delighted and honoured to host this important National Conference of Hairdressing Practitioners in Templemore College.’

The highlight of the day involved the prestigious presentation of ‘The Maura Clarke Trophy’ by Anita Kirby to Principal of Templemore College Dr. Noel Colleran and Hairdressing Co-Ordinator Geraldine Egan. This trophy represents the commitment of hairdressing teachers to developing the highest standards in the training and education of student hairdressers.

The delegates had a most enjoyable day and left the college feeling inspired and ready to teach their next cohort of students with the knowledge and disposition to be successful in the hairdressing industry. This department at Templemore College is definitely the one to watch over the coming year and we look forward to seeing and reading more.
