Cead Mile Fáilte

We welcome our International students to Scoil Ruáin. It is a pleasure to have students from Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, France, Slovakia and Japan who have come to study in Scoil Ruain for this academic year. We wish them a very successful year in Scoil Ruáin and are looking forward to learning as much about their culture as they are about ours.

Transition Year

This week our Transition years have spent a very enjoyable 2 days in Newgrange Activity Centre, Newgrange, Co. Meath as part of their induction programme to Transition Year. They sampled many of the outdoor activities on offer including Archery, Paintball, Orienteering, Assault Course and Survival Training to mention a few. A very enjoyable time was had by all. Thanks to Ms. Siobhan Tobin (TY Co-ordinator) and Mr. Frank Kearney for organising the programme and accompanying the students for the 2 days.

Basketball Teams travel to Spain

Scoil Ruáin Cadets and Senior girls travelled to Orduna, Spain on Tuesday 27th August for a six-day trip to play some teams and train. Sixteen players, coach Sean O’Regan and assistant coach/ manager Rebecca Hayden were treated so well by everyone and they all had a fantastic week.

They flew in and out from Dublin to Santander airport and travelled by bus to Orduna one- hour south of Bilbao. They stayed in a local school with full facilities and a covered and uncovered court at hand where they trained every morning. They played two games on Saturday morning and two on Sunday morning at the local Sport facility which was as big as any college facility here. The local club team and a club team from Bilbao provided great games and great fun after.

The group got an opportunity to travel to Lekeiteo beach, Bilbao shopping and Orduna pool after training on different days with help and guidance from players on the Orduna team. On two of the evenings the girls got an opportunity to show their singing and dancing talents at local festivals where they impressed and had great fun and crack with the locals.

It was a week to remember for all, the girls made it a great experience for everyone that they came in contact with, from opposition plyers, coaches, school staff, bus drivers and locals. Both Basque teams and parents are interested in traveling over next year to visit the community and play a few games which the group are already looking forward to.
