Professional Development Day for Community Education Tutors

December 18, 2018

Community Education Tutors gathering for their winter professional development meeting on Wednesday 12th December 2018 at the Training Centre in Archerstown, Thurles. The programme was very busy as there has been a lot happening over the last few months! Four of our tutors reported on their experience on completing the ten weeks An Cosan programme at Level 7 in Transformative Learning which was delivered in a Virtual Classroom setting for eight of the blended learning sessions. Another four of the tutors reported on their Erasmus+ mobilities abroad. Cher Quinlan gave an update on her experience in Madrid on Technology Enhanced Learning; Sarah Covey attended Intercultural Awareness Training in Malta; Josephine Geaney attended Emotional Intelligence training in Barcelona and Melissa Sommerville Ryan attended Increase transversal skills and innovative teaching techniques in Prague.

Community Education Facilitators Veronica Crowe and Deborah Ryan organised the professional development and gave a report on community education activity in Tipperary Education and Training Board for 2018.

Adult Education Officer, Kaye Mullaney, gave an update on the Integrating Literacy and Numeracy Policy in TETB and went through the policy. There was a vigorous discussion on how community education could incorporate literacy into programmes and examples were given by Breda Ryan Lonergan and Finbarr O’Shea who tutor in both Adult Literacy and Community Education.

Many thanks to all who attended, and we look forward to a busy 2019!
