Manchester Trip

On the 22nd of October 2016, a group of Transition Year and 5th year students were accompanied by Mr. O’ Regan, Mr. White and Ms. Crowe to Manchester. The students got a guided of tour of Manchester United’s Football Team’s Stadium ‘Old Trafford’. The students really enjoyed this part of the trip as they got to hear about the background of the club and how it developed into the club it is today. The students then got some free time where they went shopping in Old Trafford Shopping Centre.

The following day (23rd of October), the students went to the Etihad Stadium to watch Manchester City playing Southampton. The game ended in draw but the students really enjoyed the atmosphere and seeing the stadium.

This proved to be a very enjoyable trip and experience and we are already looking forward to planning our next soccer trip in 2017.

Hurling

Scoil Ruain had a great win in Round 1 of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship against Coachford of Cork.  Leading at half-time by 9 points on a score line of 2-12 to 0-9 courtesy of two cracking goals by Mikey O’Shea, the Scoil Ruain boys didn’t ease up in the second half with three goals from Jack Hayes and some excellent point scoring from Dean O’Connor, Eoin Brett, Enda Keane and Daragh Lynch. The final score was 5-17 to 1-15 and we now play Crescent Comprehensive of Limerick in Round 2 after the mid-term break.

Basketball Updates

Cadet B:

The Cadet B team travelled to Dublin on Wednesday (19th of October) to play Muckross College in the Cup competition. They started well and lead 4-0 but Muckross pulled it back to lead 10-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Muckross has a strong panel and in the 2nd quarter they made changes which saw the introduction of two very good players. Killenaule struggled to keep these at bay and a gap began to widen.

In the 3rd quarter, Killenaule switched their defensive strategy to try counteract the two strong Muckross players in offence. This worked well and Killenaule closed the gap to a few baskets. With great play from Sally Nagle, Eimear Lanigan and captain Katie o’Flynn.

The last quarter was all to play for and the girls pushed hard. Caitlin Reilly won two fouls in a row from driving for the basket, Maria Healy worked hard to win possession up and down the court and Chloe Healy was working hard in search of rebounds.

Alas Muckross finished the stronger, with tiredness setting in Killenaule missed scores that they shouldn’t have and Muckross punishing them on the break.

Final score 45-31.

We look forward to a playing Loreto, Clonmel next week.

Senior Basketball

After a good start to the year, the Senior team lost two games back to back in five days. They lost 38-49 to Kilorgan of Kerry in the National Cup at home in a very close game. A fitter Kerry team had more in the tank down the final stretch and pulled away in the last two minutes.

In the League, we had our first defeat to Loreto, Clonmel losing 31-46. On the day our performance was tame and they never got going.

Panel:- Lauren Dowling, Jessica Dowling, Ciara Horan, Grainne Horan, Alice Browning, Meibh Maher, Ciara O Sullivan, Lisa Millerick and Sophie Ryan.

Cadet B

The Cadet B team travelled to Loreto, Clonmel on Monday (24th of October). The girls started well but a strong Loreto team took control of the game from the 2nd quarter and the Killenaule girls were always chasing the game from then. They made a strong push at the start of the third quarter but the gap was just too big. All girls worked hard to the end but as the 36-14 score line suggests they were well beaten by a better team.

Team- Katie O’Flynn (capt) Caitlin Reilly, Sally  Nagle, Eimear Lanigan, Chloe Healy, Maria Hayes
