Fifth Years visit London

On Friday 13th April a group of 37 Fifth Year students accompanied by 5 teachers visited London for their School Tour. They set out from Scoil Ruáin at 3am and flew out from Dublin Airport arriving in London Gatwick Airport at 9am. On arrival they set out on a walking tour of the city cumulating in a visit to London Eye where they got a bird’s eye view of the city. After some relaxation time and dinner, they got the opportunity to see the West End Musical “Wicked”. It was a great end to their first day.

On day two they set out early from their hotel to St. Mary’s Stadium in Southampton where they watched their hero and past-pupil, Shane Long, play against Chelsea. After the game Shane invited the group to meet him for a chat, take some photographs and sign some autographs. It was a very memorable experience for all concerned. Shane keeps in regular contact with Scoil Ruáin. He is an outstanding ambassador for our school and we are very proud of all his great achievements both with his club and country. He has a big fan base in Scoil Ruáin and no doubt has grown bigger after this trip.

On the third and final day of the trip the group visited London Olympic Stadium. Here they saw the sports facilities where London Olympics were held in 2012. After some final sightseeing and shopping the group headed back to the airport for their journey home. Everyone greatly enjoyed their experience in London.
