Primary Schools Hurling Blitz

Tuesday 18th October saw Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré hold its hugely successful annual Primary Schools Hurling Blitz.  Coolderry N.S., Scoil Eoin N.S., Corville N.S., Shinrone N.S., Dromakeenan N.S. and Camross N.S. participated in an action filled day with exciting and tense matches which led ultimately to the final to win the coveted Coláiste Perpetual Shield.

The matches were played to a tight scheduled supervised by our own hurling coach Mr. Smyth, camogie coach Ms. O’Gorman and P.E. teacher Ms. Cleary. These were ably assisted by our Transiton Year students. The two semi-finals were contested by Shinrone N.S. vs Coolderry N.S. and Dromakeenan N. S. vs Corville N.S.  with Shinrone N.S. and Dromakeenan N.S. emerging as finalists. After a tough battle, Shinrone N.S. were victorious by a narrow margin.

Sincere thank you is extended to our two referees for the day Michael Ward and Tommy Ryan, our First Aid Mary Shanahan, Fergus Dooley of Dooley Wool for the use of his trailer and Ballyskenagh-Killavilla Hurling club for the use of their goals. We wish to thank our Transition Year students who were selected to act as guides, linesmen, scorekeepers and runners. The guides are selected and assigned each year according to the primary school they attended and this has proven to be hugely beneficial to the visiting students. The Transition year students represented Coláiste Phobal  well and we are very proud of their performance. Finally, we wish to thank Principal Mr. O’Connor and  Deputy Principal Mr. Flynn who facilitated the day and it is their continued support that enables this great event to take place annually.
