Ploughing Championships
Excitement was palpable in Coláiste Mhuire as TY and 5th year students armed with their wellies headed off to Screggan in Tullamore for this year’s National Ploughing Championships. Despite the inclement weather spirits weren’t dampened as our cohort happily spent the day viewing the tremendous and vast array of everything on display. Feedback was most positive especially from our non-national students who thoroughly enjoyed their day out at this major event.
School Musical
Preparations are going extremely well for this year’s school musical Hairspray that takes place on the 26th & 27th of October in The Dome. This promises to be an opportunity not to be missed. Inquiries can be made for tickets by contacting the office at Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed, phone number: 0504 21734.
Higher Options
Students from Leaving Cert. cycle traveled to Dublin last week for a Higher Options event. Over 170 Universities, Colleges and Institutes from all over Ireland and abroad offered advice and delivered talks & lectures to students considering progressing onto Third Level. Students were hugely receptive to this enlightening event held at Simmonscourt RDS Dublin and found it helpful in decision making for life after Leaving Cert.!
Holycross Student Mass
Our Transition Year students made the short distance to Holycross Abbey to participate in the Jubilee year of mercy ceremony. The main speaker at this event was Fr. Peter McVerry of Focus Ireland.. This transpired to be a fascinating and eye-opening experience as Fr. McVerry conveyed to the congregation real life accounts of the plight of homelessness and neglect among the poor of inner city Dublin in modern society.
