New Hair and Beauty Room in Block D in the Army Barracks, Clonmel

June 22, 2018

The Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) programme in Tipperary has launched a new Hairdressing room in the Army Barracks, Clonmel. This facility opened in September 2017 and has generated many possibilities for our learners in the area of Hairdressing. It currently hosts a class who are undertaking a QQI General Learning Level 3 Award which includes three hairdressing modules. This award aims to teach basic hairdressing skills in washing, blow-drying and roller settings in conjunction with Maths, Communications and IT. Many of the learners are keen to forge a career in hairdressing and are happy to express their opinion on the new facility.

Feedback from the first group of learners has been very positive:
“ I feel like I am in a hairdressing salon”
“ I love the practical skills I am learning”

Even though it is not a course requisite one learner already has gained the confidence and skills to look for and gain work experience in a local hairdressing salon one day a week. BTEI coordinator, Kathleen Grimes, is delighted with the progress of the group since last September and a new reception area for the Hair and Beauty area is being planned.

Students who have enjoyed participating in this course have the option to progress to the QQI Level 5 Award Beauty Therapy which is also run in the Army Barracks by Fiona O’Meara.
