Nenagh College – Rugby Match Report

January 19, 2015

Date: 11/12/14

Teams: Nenagh College Vs Cahir Secondary School

Score: Nenagh College 3 – Cahir Secondary School 5

Location: Cashel Rugby Club

The match began in terrible weather conditions with strong winds and rain. However, this did not deter the Nenagh side who had trained hard since September.

Nenagh College had the kick-off with the wind at their backs. The marker for intensity was set early on with great tackles going in from both sides and the score line remaining at a stalemate despite good attacking play.

The Nenagh side made a couple of key changes which bolstered team spirits and helped the squad rally together. As the match intensified so did the quality of play, with many Nenagh players becoming more confident in their abilities and creating more line breaks and opportunities.

Despite Cahir’s continued onslaught throughout the first half, Nenagh College displayed fierce defence, including a super try line saving tackle by Paul Dwan.

Coming up to half-time, Nenagh used some solid teamwork in an attacking play, leading to a penalty which was converted thanks to the boot of Shane McCarthy.

After the half time break, the Nenagh team took to the field reenergized – working hard in the ever worsening weather conditions. However, despite valiant attempts to break through the opposition’s defence and putting up fierce resistance against their oncoming attacks, the Nenagh boys couldn’t keep Cahir Secondary School out with the latter managing to inch their way to the try line and score in the final sixty seconds of play.
