October 16, 2015

GREEN SCHOOLS AWARD:

A huge congratulations to our school Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed in winning an award in the Templemore/Thurles Municipal District of the Tipperary County Council Tidy Schools Competition. We have been awarded a prize and a certificate. Well done to all involved. It is a well deserved prize for the school as a reward for all the hard work that the committee and the grounds manager have put in. Credit is due in particular to staff members Ms. Maggie Smith and Ms. Caoimhe Geaney for their energy and committment in spearheading the Green Schools team on campus and making our school environment a cleaner & greener one over recent years.

BT YOUNG SCIENTIST:

All entries have been submitted for this year’s BT Young Scientist competition. An immense amount of work has already been put into getting the various projects up and running. We wish all the hopeful participants the best of luck in qualifying for this year’s competition and thus emulate the success experienced by previous Coláiste Mhuire young scientists in recent years who entered this prestigious competition.

UNDER-16 HURLING:

Our under-16 hurlers ventured off to Cahir last Tuesday to open their season in the Munster Cup by taking on Mallow College from from Cork. Facing a Cork side that numbered several minors from this year’s championship was going to be a formidable task, but while we succumbed ultimately to superior opposition on the day, our lads never shirked the challenge and produced impressive displays from David Manning, Martin O’Reilly, and Bill Hogan.

UNDER-15 GAELIC FOOTBALL:

The under-15 squad made the journey to Duharra in Cork last Wednesday as they pitted themselves against a formidable North Monastery from Cork City. This game was an evenly balanced contest that could have swung either way with both sides leading throughout. Despite five superbly taken goals for us by Martin O’Reilly, Tom O’Reilly (2), Pádraig Gleeson, and Gary Dwan, a late flurry of points saw the opposition victorious on a 5-08 to 5-04 scoreline.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS TOURNAMENT:

Well done to all the primary schools in Thurles and from the surrounding hinterland who took part in an indoor hurling tournament in The dome at Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed recently. This hugely enjoyable day for all involved was superbly run and witnessed some excellent skillful play, no doubt, from a plethora of future stars! Thanks again to staff in organising this event, Mr. Paddy Stapleton, and Mr. John Brennan.

STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS:

Congratulations to all our students from 1st year to 6th year who were successfully elected as class representatives onto Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed’s school student council.

OPEN DAY:

An important reminder to parents & students of senior classes in primary schools in Thurles & the surrounding areas that Open Night is being held at Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed this coming Tuesday October 13th from 6pm to 9pm. A Céad míle fáilte is extended in particular to 6th class students facing the big decision where to pursue their second level education. Our Open Night promises to showcase the very best that Coláiste Mhuire has to offer. See you on the 13th!
