Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed. Thurles Notes 13/11/2015

November 13, 2015

SCIENCE WEEK:

The Science Department at Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed was extra busy last week for Science Week with an array of activities taking place. Excitement was palpable for this important week in our school calender with the highlights being a visit by a Maths magician Leon Anderson, and a Science quiz for Junior Cert. classes that was won by Leisha Ryan, Pádraig Connolly, Megan Kelly, and Madison Pitout.

SCHOOL BANK:

Students from 1st, 2nd, and 4th years were paid a visit by representatives from Bank Of Ireland last week in The Dome and delivered an information session on the merits of opening a bank account with Bank Of Ireland. Head of Customer Recruitment for the bank, Henry Shefflin, was in attendance and engaged in a follow-up questions & answers session with our students!. All classes present were most receptive to this important event and deemed it valuable as they learnt about banking, the importance of working hard to achieve goals, and why Kilkenny win so many All-Irelands!

GAELIC FOOTBALL:

Congratulations to our senior football team on their superb victory over Ennis Community College last Wednesday in the first round of the Corn Sheáin Uí Mhaoldomhnaigh (Munster Cup u-18.5). Conditions on the day were ideal for football as both sides delivered an enthralling contest. Little seperated the teams until the closing stages when two goals from Arnold Aurlaskis & Damian Bermingham saw us record a comprehensive victory on a 3-06 to 1-03 scoreline.

SHOEBOX APPEAL:

An excellent response from students throughout the school has seen a massive amount of shoeboxes containing items/gifts collected for a most worthy cause, The Hope Foundation. Well done to all involved, staff & students for their voluntary efforts in collecting shoeboxes that will ultimately reach families in disadvantaged parts of the world for Christmas.

5-A-SIDE SOCCER:

Well done to our 1st year 5-a-side soccer teams in the Dome last week as they produced excellent performances in the FAI National Cup for 5-a- side teams. Whilst opposition was formidable with 14 teams partaking from throughout Tipperary, we ultimately succumbed to eventual champions High School Clonmel by the narrowest of margins on a 1-0 scoreline. Outstanding on the day for Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed were Gary Dwan, Caylum Gooney, Shane Turner, Luke Galvin, and Azir Puerma.
