TY TOURISM TRIP TO BELFAST:

Our Transition Year students were treated to an exciting, action-packed, and most enjoyable tourism trip to Belfast last week. The excitement was palpable leading up to this superbly planned trip by TY Co-ordinator Ms. Conroy and Business TY Tourism teacher Ms. Ryan. Wednesday afternoon involved a visit to The Titanic Centre and following on from this was a meal in the renowned Cosmo World Restaurant of Asian & European food, with live cooking stations-experiential dining! Thursday saw a guided tour through the Glens of Antrim, incorporating along the way Carrickfergus Castle, The Carrick a Rede Rope Bridge, The Giants Causeway, and Bushmills Distillery. After  this there was a sojourn to late night shopping in Victoria Square, Belfast’s finest shopping centre. Friday concluded with a Belfast City ‘Hop-on, Hop-off’ tour where visits were made to City Hall, Parliament Buildings at Stormont, Queens University, The Shankill Road, The Falls Road and Peace Walls, Crumlin Road Jail, The Botanic Gardens and The Ulster Museum. On Saturday, teachers and students made the journey back to Tipp., exhausted, but all in agreement that it was a fantastic and most memorable experience, definetly a highlight in the TY calender year!

BUSINESS ENTERPRISE:

Congratulations is extended to Business teacher Ms. Miriam Bergin and her 1st year students who entered the County Final stages of The Student Enterprise Competition in L.I.T. Thurles last week. The Special Merit Award in their category was won by Katelyn Ryan, Katelyn O’Gorman, Chloe Hall, and Andrea Butler with their business ‘Recycled Creations’. Well done to our other students who participated, Gary Delaney and Joey O’Donoghue who made mini-hurleys. Oskar Lipinski and Aaron Cooke who made Polish Donuts and popcorn. Well done to all our students who ran a successful business and they created business plans, all of which are a fundamental part of the Junior Certificate Business course.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL:

Our 2nd year Boys volleyball team played three competitive matches last week in The Dome as part of the qualifying stages of the Midlands Cup Competition. The standard on the day was intense as each team competed wholeheartedly and exemplified some superb skills. Our first match pitted us against Mallow that we won on a scoreline of 22-17 in set one and 22-15 in set two. The next outing against Fethard was a closer affair but fortunately the lads dug deep and triumphed in both sets on a 25-23 scoreline. Our final match against CCN Dungarvan was equally tough as both sides gave committed performances to determine who topped the group. Fortunately, it was Coláiste Mhuire who won in the end with an equally gritty display to win both sets on a scoreline of 25-17 in set one and 25-18 in set two. We now advance to the Cup stage of this competition. Well done again to all involved and to their coach Ms. Deirdre Wall. The panel included; Arnold Aurlaskas, Shane Ryan, Callum Hall,Jack Lawlor, Mark O’Dwyer, Cameron Ferncombe, Ruairí Barrett,David Kearney, and Dylan Molumby.

BOXING:

Well done to 1st year student Gerard O’Halloran and 2nd year student Jack Lawlor who travelled to England recently to represent Thurles Boxing Club and Ireland in an international boxing tournament, and were successful in their bouts against formidable opponents.

SEACHTAIN NA GAEILGE:

D’éirigh go hiontach ar fad leis an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn i gColáiste Mhuire Comh-oideachais le linn Seachtain na Gaeilge le coicís anuas. Eagraíodh raon mór leathan imeachtaí agus bhain ‘chuile dhuine an-taitneamh astu go léir m.sh. seisiún ceoil, tráth na gceist, agus ceardlann ar an mbodhrán le Seán Geaney as An t-Aonach Urmhumhan. Bhí Gaeilge le cloisint i measc daltaí agus múinteoirí mórthimpeall an Choláiste! Seachtain Na Gaeilge proved a resounding success over the last fortnight on Campus as an  array of activities were undertaken, as both students and teachers rowed in positively and vibrantly in promoting The Irish language and Irish culture at Coláiste Mhuire.
