Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed Thurles Notes 06/11/2015

November 6, 2015

SOCCER:

Last Tuesday witnessed an outstanding performance from our under-19 team as they faced St. Ailbe’s from Tipp Town in a group match of the Munster Cup. This keenly contested affair lived up to expectations as both sides delivered a committed display that exemplified some superb skills and teamwork. Coláiste Mhuire took the lead with a well taken speculative lob from David Manning but celebrations were cut short as Ailbe’s quickly equalized. The second half was tense and tentative with little room for error, until a scintillating cross field pass from Curtis Ryan found Gavin Dunne who dispatched the ball with a powerful strike to the opposition’s net. Despite a late goal from Ailbe’s, that ultimately resulted in a 2-2 scoreline, manager Mr. Fahy and his squad are looking forward to their next outing with optimism as there is still room for improvement! Best for Coláiste Mhuire on the day were Curtis Ryan, Gavin Dunne, David Manning, Liam Ryan, Dan Dwyer, Shane Ryan, Aaron Delaney, and Aarom Maher.

1ST YEAR HURLING HURLING:

Well done to our 1st year hurling panel that travelled to Dr. Morris Park last week to compete in a tournament against Coláiste Phobail Roscrea, St. Mary’s Newport, and Carrick-on-Suir. The standard was very high from all teams and competition was intense as only a single score seperated Coláiste Mhuire and their opponents in each of their three games. While all involved hurled superbly on the day, outstanding for our team were Martin Reilly, David Doyle, Seán Ryan, Danny Slattery, and Luke Galvin.

BT YOUNG SCIENTISTS:

A special mention goes to our cohort of young scientists from 1st & 2nd years who submitted entries for the BT Young Scientist exhibition. Acknowledgement from the adjudicators resulted in presentations being made to the respective parties for their submissions. Huge recognition also to the Science Department, and in particular to Ms. Maggie Smith for her assistance and input into this prestigious competition.
