JOHN LONERGAN TALK

Last Wednesday evening, former Governor of Mountjoy Prison John Lonergan delivered a talk entitled ‘Presenting the challenges and the rewards of parenting’ at Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed to parents of students both present & incoming, but also to the general public. This transpired to be an enthralling, witty, and informative evening that was hugely enjoyed by all in attendance. A huge thanks goes to The Parent’s Council of Coláiste Mhuire for their organising of this memorable event that was concluded with a presentation made to John Lonergan by Principal Mr. Denis Quinn.

DISPLAY AT PREMIER HALL

Thurles Parish witnessed a rich display of the wide and varying work carried out by the copious amount of clubs, societies, and organisations as evidenced in The Premier Hall last Saturday. Our Transition Year students assisted by Art, English, and Woodwork Departments displayed a tree as a symbol of knowledge containing a plethora of student work pertaining to the learning environment and activities that take place both inside & outside the classroom. Well done to all involved.

TRIP TO GARDA COLLEGE

Our Transition Year students enjoyed a trip to Templemore Garda College as part of The Road Safety Programme last week. The aim of this programme as outlined by members of the Traffic Division was to educate students before they get behind the wheel and establish good behaviours on our roads.

PANCAKE TUESDAY

Some divine and decadent aromas emanated from the Home Economics Department and wafted through the corridors of Coláiste Mhuire last Tuesday as our LCA students spent the morning cooking pancakes for Pancake Tuesday. This turned out to be a very successful venture for our budding masterchefs!

CODING

A Coding day for teachers took place last week at Intel Ireland in Leixlip. This was attended by members of staff Ms. Miriam Bergin, Mr. Jamie Fanning, and Deputy Principal Ms. Clare Wallace. Fifty teachers in all attended the exhibition. Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed has been selected as one of nineteen schools that will teach Coding as a subject  at Junior Cycle level from September 2016.
