Borrisokane Community College students receive Silver Gaisce Awards

November 23, 2015

The Gaisce Silver Awards Ceremony took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Limerick last week.  Over one hundred young people from across the Munster Region received Silver Gaisce Awards for their commitment over a twenty six week period in achieving their goals in the areas of Community Involvement, Personal Skill, Physical Recreation and Adventure Journey. Three students from Borrisokane Community College were among the recipients who received their silver medals from former Munster Rugby Player Jerry Flannery.  In his address at the beginning of the ceremony Jerry Flannery complemented the young people on successfully completing the Gaisce challenge.  He went on to tell the award recipients that they should apply this method of setting and achieving goals throughout their lives and they will be very successful.  The highlight for the three students from Borrisokane Community College was taking part in the Cycle Against Suicide last May over a three day period which took them from Birr, Co. Offaly to Tralee, Co. Kerry.  All three are due to sit their Leaving Certificate in June 2016 and have decided to set themselves the ultimate Gaisce Challenge when they move on to college and achieve the Gold Gaisce Award.
