January 7, 2015

Science Club: The Science club takes place weekly for an hour during Friday lunch times. This is proving increasingly popular particularly with 1st year students. Daire Quinn B.Sc. Ed, University of Limerick working with members of the 1st year Science Club in Borrisokane Community College

Christmas Concert: Once again the students are busy preparing scenes from Blood Brothers and practising songs for their annual concert. It will be open to the public this Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th from 8pm. Tickets at €8 are available from the school. This is a hugely successful annual event that is enjoyed by all.

German Market: Just a reminder that our first German Christmas market takes place this Thursday, 4th December, in Borrisokane Community College and is open to the public from 4 – 8 pm. It promises to be a joyous and festive occasion with over 65 stalls. It will also be mentioned on Tipp FM who are coming to the school this week to talk to some of the students that have started up businesses to take part and to help promote the event. We would welcome and encourage all in the community to come along and support the local businesses of the area. A signed Tipperary hurling jersey is also being raffled at the Christmas market. All proceeds from this and the market are going towards funding school services to promote positive mental health.

Drugs and Alcohol Awareness week: Last week Pat Mulcahy from the Alcohol and Substance use Prevention Programme (GAA) presented to the 5th & 6th year students. A student, Jack O’ Meara, was given an award by the Minister, Jan O’ Sullivan, for winning an Art competition. His design is now included in the Let’s Learn about Drugs and Alcohol logo. Dr Sancha Power, HSE, held workshops in the school for 2nd year parents and students.
