Arts Appreciation Evening: To mark the completion of the school building  with the recent installation of the artwork, Circle/Move/Map  by the artist Joy Gerrard we are planning an Arts Appreciation Evening on Friday,  May 15th. Invited honorary guests will attend a talk by the artist followed by a Wine and Cheese reception. She will explain the inspiration behind the seven sculptural groupings in locations through the school. Student’s artwork will be on display in the main foyer. Past students now working or studying in the area of the Arts are also attending and displaying their work. A commissioned piece of sculptured bog oak by Mr Richard Gough will be unveiled that evening. Following the talk a production of John B Keane’s, ‘The Matchmaker’ will be performed by a local theatre company, ‘Community at Heart’. Tickets for the play are €10 and it commences at 8 pm in Borrisokane Community College. A signed Tipperary hurling jersey and many other prizes will be raffled during the intermission. All proceeds are being donated to fund counselling services provided in the school and the Autism centre. Tickets are on sale in Country Kitchen, Vibrance, Heenans and The Gym in Borrisokane. Students will be selling tickets each day in the town and they are available to purchase directly from the school. This promises to be an enjoyable and inspiring evening.

 

Transition Year: TY students enjoyed a trip to the Burren last Wednesday. They have started rugby training sessions each Friday afternoon. This week they are attending the Kairos studios in Maynooth. Students get an opportunity to attend a media production module. At Kairos they have two recording studios and through engaging hands on training students will see the work involved in producing shows for radio or TV.

 

Sport: The senior camogie team in Borrisokane Community College had great success this year. They won the Munster league final beating Cashel community school and also won the final of the Tipperary schools blitz beating Killaloe/Ballina. Well done girls. The junior Camogie team won last week and have another match this week.

 

Supervised Study: With only five weeks to the end of the school year a good study environment is essential to ensure that students are ready for their exams. Supervised study takes place in Borrisokane Community College Monday to Thursday 4.20 to 6.30 and costs €3 per evening.

 

Mental Health Talk for Parents: Parents are invited to attend a talk on how to support their child’s Mental Health from Dr. Ferguson Heffernan in Borrisokane Community College on Tuesday May 12th at 8pm.  Dr Fergus Heffernan PhD, is a renowned psychologist and psychotherapist who is a leading educator in the area of stress management and how it relates to our mental health. Dr Fergus Heffernan will give an engaging talk full of practical advice on understanding the emotional wellbeing of teenagers.
