Borrisokane CC Heritage Project to air on TG4

September 21, 2016

TG4- Guth na hEireann, Nuacht 25th September

A Heritage project was established in the school in 2015. The committee set up was comprised of the deputy principal, teachers, retired teachers, the secretary and students. They were successful in receiving funding as part of the ‘Creative Engagement’ project led by Dermot Carney of the NAPD. Students are currently making wooden bilingual signs to mark and remember all the historic sites on which the school is built. These include the Workhouse, Bakery, Laundry, Infirmary, Boys and Girls Dormitories and the Graveyard. Students have been analysing all the old school rolls. In Maths they have analysed data and represented graphically the numbers of girls and boys enrolling annually since the school opened in 1942. They are currently scanning all the old rolls and uploading them to a website as part of the Digital Schools Championship.

TG4 filmed on Monday 19th in the school to highlight this innovative and exciting project. This will be aired on Nuacht on September 25th. Students have been preparing and practising their Gaeilge in preparation for the programme. Students will be presenting the project at the NAPD Creative Engagement Exhibition in the IMMA, Dublin on the 11th October.
