Upskilling Employees

Tipperary ETB offers a wide range of part time accredited training at QQI Levels 1-6 across a variety of sectors which can be utilised by employers to train or up-skill their employees.

Skills for Work (SFW)

SFW is a national programme aimed at providing training opportunities to help self-employed and/or employees deal with the basic skill demands of the workplace. The initiative is funded by the Irish Government through the Department of Education and managed locally by TETB. Types of courses offered include: Internet, Email, Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Personal and Interpersonal Skills, Professional Development, Workplace Communications, English Language, Herd Registration courses for Farmers, etc. There is no charge for SFW, courses can be adapted to employees needs and run onsite/offsite at flexible times. Courses may be either accredited or non-accredited.

Explore

Explore is specifically targeted at providing lifelong learning for those over 35 years of age in manufacturing employment. The programme is run in conjunction with and funded by the Regional Skills for Work and aims to upskill employees in technology and IT and to create productivity improvement and workplace innovation. The course is run 2 days offsite with a specialist facilitator working onsite over 7 weeks to develop onsite systems to enhance methods of work or productivity. Projects are developed in conjunction with local management. Courses are non-accredited but progression to other courses is discussed.

Skills to Advance (STA)

STA is an initiative enabling employees to upskill or reskill. It is targeted support for employees in all parts of the workforce whose skill level is below level 5 on the NFQ. Training up to Level 5 is fully funded and 70% funded at level 6.

Skills to Advance is open to all employees, priority will be given to the following employees:

  • Employees with skills below level 5

and/or

  • Employees who are classified as vulnerable. Employees who are classified as vulnerable are;
    • either at risk of economic displacement, and/or
    • age 50+, and/or
    • Currently in a lower skilled job.

Recent Skills to Advance courses include:

  • Supervisory Management,
  • Barista Skills,
  • Multimedia for Social Media (Adobe Specialist).
  • Microsoft Technology Associate and Azure

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeship is a demand driven, workplace and classroom, educational and training programme aimed at developing the skills of the apprentice to meet the needs of industry and the labour market. Anyone wishing to become an apprentice must first obtain employment with an approved employer and meet the entry requirements of the apprenticeship. On successful completion of an apprenticeship, QQI certification is awarded.

Work Placement

Are you an employer with a work placement opportunity? Many of Tipperary ETB programmes include a work experience element of various durations, where learners earn valuable experience in actual working environments as part of their education/training course. These placements are beneficial for the learner and the employer.

Guest Speakers

To enhance the Learners educational experience, Tipperary ETB would sometimes invite Guest Speakers from industry/employment to come in and speak.
